What is Radioplayer?
Radioplayer is a non-profit organisation, funded by broadcasters including the BBC, Global Radio, and Bauer Media. Their aim is to protect and grow radio in connected devices, and their motto is ‘share technology, compete on content’. They launched in the UK in 2011, as a universal web player for listening to the radio online.
They’ve since added apps, smart-speaker integrations, and smart TV interfaces to their listener-facing platform. These support a variety of commercial formats, including AdsWizz and Triton programmatic audio/display, and video pre-roll based on VAST/VPAID standards.
In response to interest from around the world, they’ve now shared their technology and brand with 9 countries. They form part of the ever-growing Radioplayer family, contributing resources and metadata to the international Radioplayer platform. They’re increasingly working in a B2B capacity, partnering with car companies and technology firms to help improve their presentation of radio content, through prototyping and R&D.
