Last week, podcast platform Acast announced not one but two exciting new milestones. The Stockholm-based company celebrated its fourth birthday when they revealed that listening had doubled in just twelve months.

Additionally, its podcasts and digital audio content have now been downloaded more than 1.5 billion times around the world, which according to Acast is equivalent to 100,000 years of podcasting.

With podcast popularity on the rise, it’s no wonder Acast have achieved so much in one year. Reports show an estimated 23% of the UK have listened to a podcast in the last month and on average, podcast enthusiasts spend more than 3.6 hours per week listening.

Acast CEO Ross Adams said, “Audio is growing, the industry is attracting more and more diverse voices and we’re seeing people flocking to our platform to listen to them. As we expand our offering into new content forms including the at-home smart speaker world, we expect to only see this number continue to rise.”
